ATNi Launches the Edible Oil Supplier Index
27 May 2025ATNi launched its Edible Oil Supplier Index, assessing eight of the world’s largest suppliers of fats and edible oils, used as ingredients by the food industry, representing over 20% of the global market for business-to-business (B2B) edible oils and fats.
Trans Fatty Acids (TFA) are a major contributor to cardiovascular disease, yet they remain present in food supply chains around the world—especially in regions with weak or no regulation.
This index found that while several companies were found to market trans-fat free fat and oil ingredients, it remains unclear whether these products are intended solely for markets with WHO-recommended best-practice TFA regulations, or if they are also available in countries that have not yet implemented such policies.
ATNi’s research highlights that demand—driven by high-quality specifications from buyers—is one of the two key levers of change, alongside policy.
ATNi launched its latest research from the Edible Oil Supplier Index during a virtual launch event ‘Towards Zero Tolerance: Eliminating Trans Fats from the Edible Oil Industry’ in partnership with Resolve to Save Lives.
During the webinar, the Edible Oil Supplier Index methodology and industry findings were discussed, and also served as a platform for stakeholders to discuss the implications for food industry supply chains and policymaking, share solutions, and align on actionable next steps to eliminate industrially produced TFA from global commodity supply chains.
