Greg Garrett shares about the importance of ATNI's work on alignment of food reporting standards
Nestlé Commits to HSR-Based Nutrition Reporting

Nestlé’s recent commitment to evolve its nutrition reporting represents a welcome and important step toward greater accountability in the food sector. By introducing a sales-weighted average healthiness score (based on the Health Star Rating system) at both the portfolio and category levels, the company improves transparency and allows for better assessment of its product offerings.

These actions respond to specific recommendations in ATNi’s Global Indexes, and we acknowledge this progress.

We also recognize the collaboration between Nestlé and organizations focusing on improving corporate practices as a constructive example of how companies and stakeholders can work together toward shared goals.

At the same time, further steps are needed to fully align with ATNi’s expectations for responsible nutrition reporting. These include:

  • Setting a clear and ambitious target to increase the share of healthier products sold, and reducing sales of less healthy products.
  • Greater transparency on reduction of nutrients of concern (sugar, sodium, saturated fat)
  • Public reporting of marketing audit results and responsible marketing practices
  • Progress updates on Front-of-Pack labeling and use of nutrition or health claims
  • Full adherence to the WHO Code on the marketing of breast-milk substitutes

As a global leader, Nestlé has the opportunity to influence broader change. We encourage continued momentum, and look forward to seeing more companies adopt transparent, nutrition-focused reporting that supports healthier diets for all.
