The Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Summit is the flagship international conference on global nutrition hosted every four years by the host country of the Olympics and Paralympics.  France hosts the upcoming N4G on 27-28 March 2025 in Paris.

ATNi (Access to Nutrition Initiative) is one of two official international advisors along with the Global Nutrition Report (GNR), working with the N4G organizers.  In addition, ATNi, the Paris Peace Forum and GAIN are co-chairing N4G’s Private Sector Working Group. Moreover, ATNi’s Executive Director, Greg Garrett, is a member of the Independent Expert Panel on Nutrition.

The N4G Summit will elevate nutrition as a key development agenda and accelerate progress against malnutrition. It will do this by bringing together governments, international organizations, philanthropies, businesses, NGOs and other key stakeholders at a global and regional level to share successes and make new commitments for nutrition.

In 2021, ATNi worked closely with hosts Japan for the Tokyo N4G Summit. We advised on salient nutrition topics to consider for the private sector and ATNi’s Indexes of food companies and assessments of companies were used to develop engagement criteria. Ahead of the event, ATNi developed the Investor Expectations on Nutrition, Diets and Health and increased its investor signatory base to 53 institutional investors representing US$12.4 trillion in assets under management. Today, ATNi’s Investors in Nutrition and Health comprises 88 investors representing approximately $US20 trillion in assets under management. Additionally, ATNi mobilized investors for the first N4G Investor pledge, where investors acknowledged the global nutrition crisis and commit to act on it.

For the upcoming N4G with France, ATNi is leveraging this investor group to ensure that food companies disclose information on the healthiness of their food portfolios, annually, using a government-endorsed nutrient profiling model. Further, ATNi is working with a coalition of 16 organizations and investors on 2030 CEO Targets on Healthy & Sustainable Diets facilitating a process so that food and beverage manufacturers and retailers can make SMART commitments. ATNi’s 5th Global Index, which will be published in November 2024, will benchmark global food and beverage companies; highlighting good industry practices as well as gaps in policies and industry progress towards delivering healthier products to consumers both in high income as well as in emerging markets.

N4G is an excellent opportunity to further transform markets for nutrition, ensure the private sector and investors are playing an appropriate role to improve diets, and to ensure better access to nutritious foods for all.
